The Atos Seminar Series returned with a bang on Friday night. Two-time ADCC Champion, JT Torres, returned to Atos HQ. Take a look at what he covered and what makes the Atos Seminar Series different from other jiu-jitsu seminars.
Advanced Fundamentals with JT Torres
In 2019 Atos announced that they would begin a seminar series bringing icons in the sport to Atos HQ to provide exclusive seminars, free for Atos members. So far, the program has brought in names like Atos co-founder Rafael Lemos and IBJJF Hall of Famer and UFC strawweight contender Mackenzie Dern. After a year of COVID restrictions the program reignited on Friday night by the one and only JT Torres.
JT is a guard passing machine. He brought his classic top game to Atos HQ teaching the fundamentals in a new, and detailed way. JT proved that the knee cut technique, often taught to beginners, has levels like a Pokémon. Whether your knee cut is a Charmeleon or a Charizard with the right details it will be on fire. That’s the beauty of seminars. Basic jiu-jitsu is fortified with battle-tested details. These details make the techniques brand new.
After teaching the basic set up JT spent almost two hours going over variations and common reactions that you encounter when going for the knee-cut. Afterward he spent time taking pictures, meeting new people, and re-connecting with old friends. It was a phenomenal way to bring the seminar series back to the Atos HQ mats.
What Makes the Atos Seminar Series Different From Other Jiu-Jitsu Seminars
They Are Exclusive
Typically, seminars are open to the public. Anyone can attend for a fee. They are a great way for athletes to earn a living while training and competing full time. Sometimes seminars become over populated when they are open to the public. Attendees don’t receive the attention or details needed to truly master the techniques. The Atos Seminar Series is different. They are free of charge only for Atos members. And, although there’s no cost for Atos members they still require pre-registration to make sure the events are not overcapacity. This means that each member can meet the instructor, ask questions, and receive the feedback necessary to succeed and understand the techniques.
They Are Elite
One of the benefits of training at Atos HQ is that whether or not you are a competitor you are learning elite jiu-jitsu. This is because you have the opportunity to learn from and train under numerous Champions from every genre of grappling. While we have this opportunity every day at Atos HQ, the Atos Seminar Series brings in even more legendary names to further elevate your perspective on jiu-jitsu. Think you know how to knee cut? You probably do. But, as JT showed there’s more than one way to do it. Although, it’s considered a fundamental technique, JT dove deep and emphasized details making it effective against the toughest and most technical competition.
They Are A Family Affair
The instructors who are brought into Atos for the seminar series are athletes with some sort of connection to Atos HQ. Whether, the co-founder, or a competitor who has gone on to start their own ventures, or a long-time friend, there is a feeling of reunion with every seminar. Not only that, but the seminars are all ages. At Atos Seminar Series events the mats will be filled with adults and kids, competitors and hobbyists, all there for the purpose of personal development and a deep love for jiu-jitsu.
